The end of winter is fast approaching – and that means ‘Hanami Geiko’!

Hanami (花見, “flower viewing”) is the annual Japanese  custom of going out into parks and gardens where the cherry blossom (“sakura”) are flowering, and celebrating this beautiful, but transient signal of the coming of spring.

In Tasmania, we have begun a tradition of inviting guests from all over Australia, and the world, to come and join us for a celebration of the natural beauty of Deloraine Tasmania, and experience focused dojo training with some of the most senior aikidoka in the country.

The Training:

This year, special evening training in Launceston Dojo, and Sugano Dojo will be held on Wednesday and Thursday nights, led by Tony Smibert Shihan.

The Hanami weekend training will begin on Friday night, and will to be held at Tenchi Farm Dojo, led again by Tony Smibert Shihan.

There is also the likelihood of a mountain training at some point TBA during the weekend.

Hanami Celebration Sunday 24th September

At the end of the weekend of training, a celebratory meal with sushi and sake will be held beneath the beautiful cherry blossoms along the banks of the Meander River in Deloriane.
