August State Training

An awesome time was had by all at our recent state training in the Launceston Unigym dojo. Thanks to all who attended, and for Tony Smibert Shihan for such an inspsiring and fun traininig.

We also had the opportunity to wish our good friend and long-time training partner Michael Seward well for the future(pictured above in black on the left). Mike is moving interstate and we thank him very much for his many years of hard work on behalf of Aikikai Tasmania, and his years of training with all of us.

Aikido Winter School 2019

Saturday 29 June – Friday 5 July 2019

Suzuki Toshio

Every year there are 2 national schools, one in summer in Melbourne, and one in winter in Sydney. This year’s national school was attended by a number of Tassie aikidoka, including (of course) Tony Sensei as one of the hosts and senior instructor of the event, as well as Ken Treblico Sensei and Tristan Derham Sensei, and Lance Wilson, Chris Jones and Luke Dolby.

As usual it was lovely event, with the food and good company being particular highlights. The Guest Instructor from Hombu Japan (shown in the picture above) was Suzuki Sensei, who joined in every class and presented a wonderful insight into many techniques and key understandings.

Below are a couple of photos from the event.

Hanami Geiko 2018

Updated Hanami Geiko information:
John Rockstrom Sensei will now be coming to Tasmania a little later in the year, and so the training will now be led by the wonderful John Watson Sensei alone.
The registration form for hanami is now available (last minute!) – please download, fill it in, and send to hanamigeiko@gmail.com if you plan to attend. Tassie aikidoka need only fill in the minimal amount of contat info – but it is useful to have numbers for those meals and accomodation options! See you soon!
The first version (first link below) is a little easier to use, but if you have an older version of word or you are using a Mac, you may need the older version (second link below)

Once again another half year has flown by and we are once again coming into spring and all that this brings us.

It also means that the time for Hanami Gieko – Tasmania’s annual social and training event held at the beautiful Tenchi Farm Dojo. This year we have been very fortunate in enticing both John Watson and John Rockstrom to join us for this special event, meaning that this Hanami will be especially memorable and a unique opportunity to combine such high quality training with such a wonderful natural setting.

One again, all are welcome. Set up your camp in the gardens or bring a bedroll and sleeping bag and stay with us on the mat in the dojo./ Meals are also available by arrangement.

Special Training with Minegishi Sensei!

bloomingtree

Summer school 2018 is coming to an end and we are very privileged that Minegishi sensei (7th Dan) is coming to Tasmania for a short time, and has very kindly agreed to lead a special class at Tenchi Farm Dojo at 7pm on Monday 15th of January.

Check with your dojo reps for training days and times, but training should now be resuming it’s usual timetable in most parts of the state.

Trainee’s in Launceston Dojo should note that, as a result of the special training, the normal classes will resume Thursday 18th January, rather than Monday 15th as previously planned.

Happy New year to all!

The end of winter is fast approaching – and that means ‘Hanami Geiko’!

Hanami (花見, “flower viewing”) is the annual Japanese  custom of going out into parks and gardens where the cherry blossom (“sakura”) are flowering, and celebrating this beautiful, but transient signal of the coming of spring.

In Tasmania, we have begun a tradition of inviting guests from all over Australia, and the world, to come and join us for a celebration of the natural beauty of Deloraine Tasmania, and experience focused dojo training with some of the most senior aikidoka in the country.

The Training:

This year, special evening training in Launceston Dojo, and Sugano Dojo will be held on Wednesday and Thursday nights, led by Tony Smibert Shihan.

The Hanami weekend training will begin on Friday night, and will to be held at Tenchi Farm Dojo, led again by Tony Smibert Shihan.

There is also the likelihood of a mountain training at some point TBA during the weekend.

Hanami Celebration Sunday 24th September

At the end of the weekend of training, a celebratory meal with sushi and sake will be held beneath the beautiful cherry blossoms along the banks of the Meander River in Deloriane.

TTC Weekend Training June2017

File_000

A fantastic weekend of training was had recently, when trainees from Lorinna, Hobart as well as Launcetson and Deloraine met at Tenchi Farm. The weather was glorious as we enjoyed this idyllic setting for a rigourous and fascinating training given by Tony Smibert sensei, who we were extremely fortunate to be able to enlist for the technical training course.

Thanks to all the aikidoka who travelled to this event, especially the younger students who made Saturday’s class so memorable and enjoyable. Thanks also, as always, to Martin and Bodhi for hosting the event at thier wonderful Tecnhi Farm Dojo, and also for the wonderful food and company that many of us were able to enjoy together on Saturday night.
